The Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission (MPPDC) was funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to work with Middle Peninsula localities (Essex, Gloucester, King & Queen, King William, Mathews and Middlesex Counties and the Towns of Urbanna, Tappahannock, and West Point) to update the 2016 Middle Peninsula All Hazards Mitigation Plan (AHMP). The Plan evaluates all hazards that may affect the region and proposes mitigation strategies to reduce the impacts of future hazardous events.

Below is the 2021 Plan Update timeline:

  • Implementation Meeting/Grant Award- September 2020
  • Organize Resource- September – December 2020
  • Community Assessment/Profile- January to February 2021
  • Revise Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment- January to March 2021
  • Coordination with Tribes- December 2020 to October 2022
  • Revise Mitigation Plan- February to April 2021
  • Public Outreach and Education- September 2020 to May 2021
  • VDEM and FEMA Approval of Plan - July 2021
  • Adoption and Implementation- September 2021 to February 2022
  • Project Closeout with VDEM- March 2022 to October 2022
