MPPDC’s Regional Emergency Management Program provides the necessary administrative framework to assist rural Middle Peninsula governments with access to enhanced regional Emergency Management planning tools and techniques. The Regional Emergency Management Program works through local Emergency Managers to provide support to local government elected officials, chief administrative officers for local governments, and local planning staff. For example, the division works on: U.S. Route 17 evacuation planning; Emergency Operation Center (EOC) exercises; local and regional plan development; and grant writing and support. MPPDC staff also provide research services for ongoing and new or emerging Emergency Management issues and provide EOC staffing support during disasters. Additionally, the division convenes regular meetings with local Emergency Managers to assist with improved Emergency Management planning.
