This viewing party will take place on December 13th, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, in the MPPDC Board Room at 125 Bowden Street, Saluda, VA 23149. This viewing party is open to the public and we encourage interested parties to attend! Provided below is a brief overview of Virginia Community Capital and the topics that will be covered during the session:
Virginia Community Capital (VCC) is a Virginia-based community development financial institution (CDFI) committed to investing in and enhancing its local communities and their capacity. VCC’s increasing investment in building strong, local community partnerships and their mission as a CDFI calls for an intentional engagement strategy and for bringing innovative resources to their stakeholders. With this driving belief, VCC has hosted a knowledge sharing initiative for the last eight years called The Learning Exchange.
The Learning Exchange’s main goal is to provide frameworks/ideas the statewide audience can easily digest and apply to their unique communities. These ideas tend to challenge conventional thinking, offer tools and resources, and bring innovative perspectives to Virginia’s communities. In 2018, VCC will host a conversation between Bruce Katz, former Brookings Institute Fellow and author of The New Localism, and Erika Poethig, Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer at the Urban Institute and lead of the Research to Action Lab which is an innovation hub serving decision makers and creative thinkers eager to effect social change. Craig Carper, News Director of 88.9 WCVE Public Radio, will serve as moderator. With the theme of “place” guiding the program, these speakers are able to offer macro and ground-level perspectives of place-based impact investing.
