The Virginia Institute of Marine Science’s (VIMS) April 2021 report, Dredging Implementation Prioritization and Management for Middle Peninsula Shallow Draft Channels, identified 120 shallow draft channels in the region of which 55 (46%) were restricted or semi-restricted and 39 (32%) were completely shoaled or have shoaled greater than 50% of the channel.
