On two separate occasions in July and September
of 1676, Governor Berkley was driven from Jamestown by Bacon's
forces. Jamestown was burned by Bacon on September 19, 1676.
With Bacon's sudden death from natural causes on October 26,
1676, the insurrection lost momentum and Governor Berkley
was once again able to establish control over the colony.
