Carter Braxton

The Middle Peninsula figures prominently in the fight for American independence both in its people and in military operations. Carter Braxton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, hailed from both King William and King and Queen Counties.


        

Lord Dunmore, Colonial Governor and Britsh Colonel Tarleton

Lord Dunmore, the colonial Governor, fled the colonies through the Middle Peninsula and the area was the location of encampments by General Lafayette as well as Colonel Tarleton's final skirmish.
